Workshops

Monkey NoisesI have been involved in running workshops in the community and in schools for over 10 years, including doing a traineeship at The Sage Gateshead in 2002.

I have a long experience of running workshops in music technology, improvising, sound art, film, animation, radio/podcasting, sound design, graphic design and web based work, working with ages 5 to 90 across communities in the UK. I have worked in schools, with community groups, PRU’s and within companies, including project managing several big projects.

Companies I have worked for have included BBC, Sound & Music, The Sage Gateshead, Lanternhouse International, Connexions, Barrow Borough Council, Heron Corn Mill & Creative Futures Cumbria.

I can run fun activities for school groups, youth groups, adults, older people and teacher/leader inset sessions and have a passion for helping people to express themselves through technology in a relaxed and safe environment. I have long experience of working with hard to reach groups and have mentored many emerging workshop leaders.

Details of example work:

Heron Corn Mill | Blast From The Past | The Big Bash Band of Hawkshead | Sonic Landscapes | The R Factor | Music Factory | Sonic Postcards

Teaching guitarFeedback:

Teacher – Hawkshead Primary‘Shaun has an excellent relaxed style with children, but gets things moving – keeping a really good and varied pace. Our understanding and appreciation of sound and music has been really enhanced this week. We have begun to really grasp improvisation and sound and how we could interpret what we see by playing sounds to accompany (the visuals).’

Andy Halsey – Musiclinks – ‘The work carried out by you as Music Leader (working in primary schools in the Barrow area) educating and empowering the young people taking part, resulted in the composition of a number of unique, well structured and uplifting compositions.

The fact that one of the songs you helped the students to create was voted as runner up for the South of the County (beating around 50 other entrants) by a panel of independent judges, is a testament to the special qualities that you bring to each project you are involved with.

Thank you once again for your involvement with the R Factor project. Your talent, integrity and enthusiasm for the work you do, is very much appreciated by all those who have the good fortune to work with you.’

Teacher – Silloth Primary School‘The animations are fantastic.  We watched them together in class this morning.  The children were thrilled with the finished product.  Thank you so much for your hard work.  To achieve what the children did in only one day is amazing.’
