I’ve just been involved in running some digital art workshops at Heron Corn Mill. Working with artist Ellie Chaney we helped young people find out more about the mill and to try their hand at stop frame animation and podcasting.
The Mill said ‘As part of our Heritage Lottery development funding we piloted several free events and activities over the Easter Holiday period (2012), which targeted some of our under-served audiences, so we invited families, teenagers and young people along to see what’s on offer and to take part. Here you will be able to see and listen to the fab media produced in these workshops.’
We made 2 podcasts, helping young people to understand how to make a podcast/radio show. We showed them how to do interviews, sound recording, editing, making jingles and how to put it all together.
We explored the idea of the mill in the past, present and future while showing young people how to make stop frame animations. We looked at researching, making all the props and characters and how to put it all together.
There is more work at the Heron Corn Mill site, including worksheets on how to animate and make a podcast.
